In some countries, the penalty for changing one's religion is execution. Ex-Muslims face "Sharia Laws" under which women deemed to be "immoral" are stoned to death, and widows guilty of being adulterous are buried alive. while men who even murder someone in a fit of rage in these cases, usually get only a few years in jail. As you can see, Ex-Muslims face many different threats. Even threats about their family.
Ex-Muslims in the United States is kind of opposite from Ex-Muslims in Muslim countries. instead of getting threats about their family members, they get threats from their family members. "Some have simply been shunned by their families," stated in the article Daring Leaps of Faith.
I find the behavior in the United States so surprising. I find this surprising because I never knew your family members would do something that intense. I would at least believe that they would be on your side. I do not find this surprising in Muslim countries. Maybe because in Muslim countries, you would least likely find another type of religion around, and when you try to change to another, you wouldn't have anyone on your side protecting you. Everyone would be against you.
